Roblox’s India Economic Impact Report projects India’s gaming-industry revenue to rise from ₹6,300 crore in 2025 to ₹9,200 crore in 2028. The global gaming and creation platform also reported that its daily active users in India grew at a 76% compound annual rate between 2020 and 2025.
Those two figures set the scale of the opportunity and the limits of the evidence. Revenue for 2028 remains a projection, while the daily-user rate covers five historical years. The announcement did not provide starting or ending daily-user totals, so the rate cannot establish Roblox’s current Indian reach.
The report in context
At a recent UNBOX ROBLOX familiarisation event in New Delhi, Roblox presented its latest announcements, games and features from RDC 2026, alongside findings from the impact report. The company described India as an important market for gaming, digital creativity and creator-led businesses.
Sunil Rao, managing director of Roblox India and South Asia, said: “India has enormous potential.” He also argued that “the next major Roblox hit could emerge from the country’s growing community of small studios and creators.” That remains a company forecast, not a confirmed release or performance claim.
Creator participation was already visible. More than 250 Indian creators were eligible for Roblox payouts in 2025, and Roblox said creators were reaching international audiences through games, virtual fashion and digital experiences. Eligibility does not show how many creators received payments or how much they earned; neither figure was disclosed.
Roblox estimated that creator activity contributed ₹123.9 crore to India’s GDP from 2020 through 2025 and supported approximately 510 full-time-equivalent jobs across the economy in 2025. The job measure reflects estimated economy-wide support, not a disclosed count of Roblox employees.
Local examples
Roblox highlighted two Indian businesses at the event:
- Bengaluru-based Small World Games, whose game Death Ball had recorded more than 1.6 billion visits.
- Meta Fashion, which had sold more than 2.5 million digital fashion items.
The company supplied no revenue, unique-user or buyer totals for either example. Visit and item-sales counts show distribution and transaction volume, but they do not reveal the income retained by the creators behind those products.
What does this mean for Indian creators?
For developers, designers and digital entrepreneurs, the immediate opportunity is access to a rapidly expanding Indian audience, followed by distribution through a global platform. The event positioned games, virtual fashion and other digital experiences as routes to international customers, not only domestic attention.
The creator-economy data still require caution. Roblox reported 76% historical daily-user growth without an absolute baseline, and it counted payout eligibility without payment totals. Its GDP and employment estimates indicate broader economic spillover, but the announcement did not publish the report’s model, assumptions or independent validation.
For studios budgeting a launch, the practical answer is to treat the platform as a meaningful distribution channel, not a guaranteed revenue source. The announcement includes no development-cost, creator-fee or earnings benchmarks, leaving creators without enough data to forecast returns.
The measurable evidence so far is 1.6 billion Death Ball visits, more than 2.5 million Meta Fashion sales and over 250 payout-eligible creators, all reported by Roblox. The next test is whether those activity levels convert into disclosed creator earnings and sustained reach beyond the company’s 2028 forecast.
