TikTok says more than 200 million people across Europe use the platform for discovery, and advertisers there generated €31 billion in economic value last year, according to independent research by Public First. The company announced the figure at Advertising Week New York 2026 as it rolled out a suite of agentic AI ad products spanning the full customer journey.
Kantar's Media Reactions 2026 report, cited by TikTok, ranked the platform as the number one destination where marketers plan to increase ad spend in 2027, with 84% of marketers placing advertising on TikTok. That benchmark frames the commercial stakes behind the announcements.
"AI is transforming how advertiser content is created and scaled," said David Kaufman, Global Head of Monetization Product Partnerships at TikTok. "We are enabling advertisers to create work that feels relevant, move at the speed of culture, and drive meaningful business impact."
What is TikTok shipping now?
The headline product is Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent built into several TikTok touchpoints. It remembers user needs, understands context, and handles product details, shipping, sizing, availability and purchasing within a single conversation. It forms part of TikTok's new Agentic Commerce shopping experiences, which the company positions as the bridge from discovery to transaction.
On the infrastructure side, TikTok is distributing its Business Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a connector across external AI platforms and registries, including Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry. TikTok says the MCP has seen a 200%+ increase in advertisers using it for campaign activation and management since launch.
Automation is also expanding in three directions:
- Search Ads Campaigns powered by Smart+ — automates keyword targeting, bidding and search budget management, aiming to match ads to user intent across diverse queries.
- Smart+ Creative Selection — merges advertiser assets, Symphony's AI-generated creatives and creator content into a single approval workflow, with recommended creative groupings per campaign objective and advertiser control over what goes live.
- GMV Max improvements — the TikTok Shop automated ad solution will now factor in business costs such as affiliate commissions, coupons and referral fees, letting sellers optimize for true ROI rather than surface-level performance.
Which features won't reach Europe yet?
TikTok confirmed two agentic products that are not yet available in Europe. Buy Direct is a one-click in-app checkout that lets users buy directly from brands without leaving the For You feed; TikTok is building it with commerce and payment partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe. Agentic Leads is an AI agent for lead generation that captures, qualifies and converts high-intent prospects through AI-guided conversations, available via Lead Agent in TikTok Direct Message and in lead forms on advertiser-owned websites.
What does this mean for advertisers?
For practitioners, the announcements shift more of campaign operations toward automated and agent-driven workflows. Media buyers gain a broader Smart+ footprint across search and creative; commerce sellers get cost-aware optimization through GMV Max; and developers can now build TikTok Ads integrations inside third-party AI tools they already use.
The €31 billion EU figure and the Kantar ranking come from TikTok's own announcement, so advertisers should treat them as platform-supplied benchmarks rather than independently verified performance guarantees.
Whether the agentic commerce push converts discovery into transactions at scale will become clearer as Shopping Assistant, Buy Direct and Agentic Leads move from announcement to general availability.
